Sebastian Lanser is an Austrian drummer, producer, and educator, internationally recognized for his exceptional versatility and his ability to navigate between complex musical genres.
He is one of the founding members of the progressive metal band Obsidious. However, he is best known for his work with the technical death metal band Obscura (2014-2020), with whom he recorded the acclaimed albums Akroasis and Diluvium.
His career is significantly marked by his long-standing role with Panzerballett, a German experimental Jazz-Metal band. This dual presence in technical metal and jazz-fusion exemplifies his unique style, which combines the surgical precision of extreme metal with a richness and sense of groove inherited from jazz.
He studied drumming (with a minor in piano) at the Anton Bruckner University in Austria. His academic training allows him to seamlessly integrate complex time signatures, polyrhythms, and quintuplets into his compositions.
In addition to his band projects, Sebastian Lanser is a highly sought-after session musician (working notably with Martin Grubinger) and an active educator, giving clinics and master classes worldwide on topics such as polyrhythms and odd meters.
