Mario Duplantier

Mario Duplantier is the virtuoso drummer of the French death metal band Gojira, which he co-founded with his older brother Joe in 1996. He started drumming at the age of 11, and he is widely regarded as one of the best metal drummers of his generation, known for his powerful, technically precise, and extremely creative style. His drumming style is characterized by impressive technical precision, the use of complex polyrhythmic patterns, and breaks and fills with jazz influences. Gojira evolved towards a progressive and technical death metal style, distinguishing themselves with lyrics on environmental and spiritual themes. In 2021, the album "Fortitude" achieved resounding success, reaching number 1 on the US charts a week after its release. In 2024, the band made history by performing at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, a performance that earned them a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.
