Jay Weinberg is an American powerhouse drummer widely recognized for his high-energy, aggressive performance style across heavy metal and punk hardcore. He achieved massive global prominence as the driving force behind Slipknot, stepping into the legendary slot in 2014 and anchoring the band's massive live show and studio albums like .5: The Gray Chapter and We Are Not Your Kind for nearly a decade. Before his career-defining tenure with Slipknot, Weinberg built his reputation by filling in for his father, Max Weinberg, in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, and tracking for hardcore and punk mainstays like Madball and Against Me!. In early 2024, his elite position in the heavy music scene was reaffirmed when he officially joined crossover thrash pioneers Suicidal Tendencies and infectious punk-rock outfit Infectious Grooves.

His drumming style is defined by blistering blast beats, complex double-bass patterns at high tempos, explosive rimshots, and a relentless physical stamina that maintains extreme precision under heavy stage pressure.

For his intense live touring setups, Weinberg uses SJC Drums, playing custom-built shells designed to withstand extreme impact and deliver massive low-end projection. His cymbal configuration consists of heavy, fast-responding Zildjian models chosen to cut through dense, down-tuned guitar walls. He drives his aggressive upper-body velocity with durable Vater sticks, and outfits his entire kit with Evans drumheads tuned for a sharp, defined attack that handles high-velocity double-bass and snare work. For his heavy-duty hardware needs and pedal setups, he relies on DW (Drum Workshop) engineering, while expanding his syncopated accents and live patterns with LP (Latin Percussion) cowbells and blocks. Jay Weinberg remains a modern benchmark for extreme metal stamina, hardcore punk pocket, and uncompromising physical execution.
