Gavin Harrison is a British drummer and percussionist, widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians in contemporary progressive rock.

He is primarily known for his long-standing collaborations with two major acts in the genre: Porcupine Tree (which he joined in 2002 for their most acclaimed period, and with whom he recently resumed activity) and King Crimson (which he joined in 2007, often playing in their multi-drummer lineup). He has also been the official drummer for The Pineapple Thief since 2016.

His style is immediately recognizable, characterized by a sophisticated use of polyrhythms, beat displacement, and ghost notes of microscopic precision. He excels at creating rhythmic patterns that challenge perception, which he calls "rhythmic illusions."

Before his progressive rock success, Harrison was a highly sought-after session musician in London, working with a variety of international artists, including Iggy Pop, Level 42, Lisa Stansfield, and Paul Young.

An award-winning author, he has published several educational books and DVDs, notably Rhythmic Illusions and Rhythmic Perspectives, which detail his advanced concepts. His work has won multiple "Best Progressive Drummer" awards from specialized magazines.
